Vertigo

Swirling images, pulsating bodies – objects and spaces, in breathtaking vertiginous motions. Whirling and spinning, a sense of orientation disappears as they wind around their own axis. But in “Vertigo”, new connections become apparent. Spaces appear in the spiralling of time: tunnels, portals and wormholes. Everything is inextricably interwoven, interspersed with new choreographies and surprising constellations. This is where centrifugal forces trick the senses out of their curve, unleashing them to circulate in new orbits.

Spinning - Bild 14
An assembly of endless reflections. Thoughts. No beginning, no end. Amorphous shapes contract and expand. Colours and concrete lines on vague surfaces, hinting at endless spaces. Two gestures in ink and pencil.  Direction Martin Anibas Duration 2' Country Austria Year 1991

Auf dem Grund des Wäschekorbs, Adele Raszkövi, AT 2021
Auf dem Grund des Wäschekorbs
An ode to the laundry basket. The object becomes a vortex, a black hole, whose end seems to be getting closer but is never reached, meaning the ground always remains out of sight. Everyday life becomes transcendental. A cyclical dance, a circular battle, a lyrical experiment.  Direction Adele Raszkövi Duration 7' Country Austria Year 2021

In Her Boots
Fried eggs, caresses and naked choreography. Energetic movements through internal and external landscapes. Meandering between a fear of loss and autonomy gives rise to a map of connections. Fleeting observations of things remembered and forgotten, of things retained and lost all in the same frenzy.  Direction Kathrin Steinbacher Duration 6' Country Austria Year 2019

Raumfahrt, Renate Kordon, AT 1989 | © Raumfahrt, Renate Kordon, AT 1989
Raumfahrt
The body misses space, taking stock of relationships. An orbit described through the camera. The perspective is shifted, the field of view is splintered. The artist in her living space, the living space upside down. Is living working? Is filming living?  Direction Renate Kordon Duration 4' Country Austria Year 1989

DONT KNOW WHAT, Thomas Renolder, AT 2019 | © DONT KNOW WHAT, Thomas Renolder, AT 2019
Don't Know What
Flickering behind the eyes, voices between derailment and control. The idea of “don’t know what” is dissected and turned upside down. Image by image, the manipulation causes alienation. Jittering and pausing, everything is precisely garbled; the voice becomes music, the body an instrument.  Direction Thomas Renolder Duration 8' Language German Country Austria Year 2019

HAPPY DOOM, Billy Roizs, AT 2023 | © HAPPY DOOM, Billy Roizs, AT 2023
HAPPY DOOM
The screen is a vibrating membrane, spitting out and swallowing colours, shapes and noisy sounds. Psychedelic colours and suction, a sensory whirlpool of happiness suspends everything external, with hypnotic circles imploding and intense sounds bursting on a pleasant trip.  Direction Billy Roisz Duration 3' Country Austria Year 2023

O, Paul Wenninger, AT 2021 | © O, Paul Wenninger, AT 2021

A dance at a standstill, choreography, surveying. Everything revolves around the body, the room in the old villa destabilises itself and physical conditions are lifted into a spin. The animation moves dizzily around the dancers.  Direction Paul Wenninger Duration 6' Country Australia Year 2021

Muybridge’s Disobedient Horses
Flip book and disobedient horses. The essence of cinematic illusion is investigated in a series of four episodes. Everyday objects, bodies and time are in constant motion. The head slams against the wall and the machines are constantly, magically recalibrated.  Direction Anna Vasof Duration 5' Country Austria

Cavalcade, Johann Lurf, AT 2019 | © Cavalcade, Johann Lurf, AT 2019
Cavalcade
A circular water wheel in a stream meets a strobe light. In 35 mm, two cameras capture the movement and stillness with and against time. A double trick that poetically shakes perception and plays with the boundaries between illusion and reality.  Direction Johann Lurf Duration 5' Country Austria Year 2019

THORAX, Siegfried A. Fruhauf, AT 2019 | © THORAX, Siegfried A. Fruhauf, AT 2019
Thorax
Flickering, clinking, stroboscopic glinting. A torso in full abstraction. Sunspots and pulsating synapses, small explosions and dancing light particles. The body succumbs to looking into the light and follows wild choreography into the glittering inner depths.  Direction Siegfried A. Fruhauf Duration 8' Country Austria Year 2019

Distorted structures, data storage media converted to outdated footage. The equipment sends remembrance into a spin. Layers of storage. A hypnotic spiral appears to emanate from hints of the in-between, in which the physicality and non-linear forms of remembering find a place.  Direction Lydia Nsiah Duration 8' Country Austria Year 2021
