It Was Mine
R. is scouring bookstore after bookstore in search of a remarkable book that he yearns to read. He finally finds it in the most unexpected way. A playful and offbeat reflection on the surprising moments where you get the feeling that everything is somehow connected. Based on a short story by Paul Auster. Direction Kajsa Næss Duration 8' Language English Country Norway Year 2015Titina
After being the first person to set foot on the South Pole, the Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen also wants to conquer the northernmost part of the earth. So he commissions the Italian engineer Umberto Nobile to build an airship that will be able to withstand the extreme conditions of the North Pole. The two men embark on an expedition in the airship Norge together with their team and Noble’s dog, Titina. But in addition to the extreme temperatures, the mood on board also becomes increasingly icy. Driven by nationalism, and due to their different temperaments, a bitter rivalry arises between Amundsen and Nobile.
The journey of the airship Norge to the North Pole ranks among the most important feats of the early 20th century. In her feature film debut, Norwegian director Kajsa Næss captures this flight in compelling images, frequently incorporating real archival footage to underscore the historical reality of the event. Despite the epic background, “Titina” excels first and foremost as a quiet study of two solitary people who are as ingenious as they are eccentric and whose friendship is in danger of breaking apart due to stubbornness and historical circumstances.
