Reise der Schatten

The film explores the question of what makes humans human in the age of technology and artificial intelligence. Using a unique 3D animation technique, Swiss artist Yves Netzhammer takes an unsparing look at the present and future of the digital age in his feature-film debut and reflects on the reciprocal condition of human and non-human beings in a constant cycle of becoming and passing away.

The animated universe and its protagonists are characterised by fluid identities. Complemented by a complex, sophisticated soundtrack, “Journey of Shadows” offers an immersive, dreamlike film experience.

Yves Netzhammer’s work captivates with its own aesthetic: non-naturalist and stylised forms are intertwined with model-like and symbolic figures, objects and landscapes. Despite – or perhaps because of – their facelessness and speechlessness, the figures serve as projection surfaces for our own emotions and interpretations of the human condition. A fascinating, thought-provoking poetic landscape of the soul that casts a spell over you.
