Meet the Artist: Regina Pessoa
Portuguese filmmaker Regina Pessoa studied painting and discovered her love of film as an intern at Abi Feijó’s Studio Filmógrafo. In 1999, she animated her first own short film, “A Noite”, in elaborate plasterboard engraving. As the source of inspiration for her style-defining engraving techniques, she cites her uncle, who took the liberty of drawing on walls and doors with pieces of charcoal in her grandmother’s house owing to a lack of paper and pencils. Regina Pessoa dedicated the film “Uncle Thomas: Accounting for the Days” to him in 2019. Her poetic, touching films tell personal yet universal stories about human experiences that connect us all. She has received numerous nominations and awards, including a Cristal award at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival for “Tragic Story with Happy Ending” (2005).
Regina Pessoa takes us on a journey through her artistic career and creative process and presents artworks, sketches, films, excerpts and more.
