Miss Moxy
Moxy is a terribly spoiled house cat. Suddenly left to her own devices, she has no choice but to team up with a well-trained dog and an ageing swallow. With a knack for local details, this Dutch- Belgian children’s film tells a story of empowerment, friendship and respect.
Spoiled Moxy belongs to the coolest cat gang in her neighbourhood. She spends her carefree days playing the piano and teasing the neighbour’s dog. Her life seems perfect – all the more so when she is finally allowed to accompany her owner on holiday to the countryside for the first time. However, her musical talent leads to her being kidnapped by the guesthouse manager and she only just manages to escape.
Much to Moxy’s dismay, she is forced to rely on the help of a dog and ageing swallow to find her way home. On their odyssey, the three must learn to work together whether they like it or not, as the kidnapper remains hot on their heels.
By means of humour, pace and some surprisingly catchy musical intervals, Belgian filmmaker Vincent Bal and Dutch animator Wip Vernooij depict an animal road trip across France and Belgium.
At the same time, the directing duo celebrates core values such as self-determination, friendship and respect in a child-friendly way. Particularly noteworthy is the animation, which, although created entirely on a computer, is reminiscent in its style and character design of the lovingly crafted work of Aardman (“Wallace & Gromit”, “Chicken Run”).
