Jim Queen
After a mysterious viral infection, influencer Jim Parfait appears to be turning heterosexual. Nicolas Athane and Marco Nguyen mix body culture, football, driving beats and social anxieties in a light-footed comedy about gay cis men’s sense of self.
Jim Parfait is the undisputed king of the Parisian gay scene. During the week, he sculpts his body at TEMPLE GYM and flexes his muscles on the POWERBOYZ dance floor at weekends. Lucien Bayer, meanwhile, is desperately trying to break free from a gilded cage. His mother, France’s current Health Minister, is preventing him from living his life to the fullest and trying to force her heteronormative lifestyle on him.
When Jim Parfait becomes infected with “Heterosis” – a virus that threatens to “heterofy” him – he is exposed online. He is left with just one follower: Lucien. Together they set out in search of “Chloroqueer”, the cure for Heterosis.
Marco Nguyen and Nicolas Athane have already directed short films and contributed to projects such as “Gipfel der Götter” (2021) and “Die Rote Schildkröte” (2016). Now they are both making their feature-film directorial debut with “Jim Queen”, presenting a richly coloured tour through the gay subcultures of a fictionalised Paris.
“Jim Queen” is set at the intersection of “Lesbian Space Princess”, “Steven Universe” and “Rick & Morty”. An edgy, elegantly animated musical adventure about self-discovery and friendship. (Dominique Häuptli)
