“Fear of Flying” – not exactly easy for a bird born to fly. This short film by Conor Finnegan could just as well be called “No Fear of Flying”, in keeping with this year’s theme of the Evangelical Reformed Church: “No Fear of Fear”. Will the bird ultimately overcome its fear – and fly? The second film we are showing in the church is “Oh Willy” by Emma De Swaef. It deals with nudity, physicality – and paradise. A multi-layered film with a celestial effect in the final scene: a bearded being (God?) lifts the protagonist onto his lap – and offers him his breast. Is this a male paternal figure? Is it a consoling mother who accepts us as we are? Does it matter?
