Ygor Gama
Born in Recife (Brazil) in 1988, Ygor Gama went to complete their film studies at the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina. After award-winning short films like “Leaving” in 2012, they directed “#YA”, a film about civil disobedience around the world that was not only nominated for the Crystal Bear at the Berlinale International Film Festival (2015), but also honoured with various additional international film prizes. Furthermore, as an alumni of the IDFA DocLab in the Netherlands (2017), Ygor researched new media and digital art. They were the video artist for Lebanon’s Maqamat Dance Theatre (2018–2019), a leading voice of contemporary dance in the Arab world. Since 2019, they have also been a member of the selection committee for the “Generation” programme at the Berlinale as well as for the Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg (2022–) and Durban IFF in South Africa (2023–). In 2020, Ygor Gama became a juror for the 36th Warsaw International Film Festival. They are currently directing a new film – “Save the Dance”, funded by BKM (German Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media) – and live and work in Rio de Janeiro and Berlin.
