Sirocco et le royaume des courants d'air
Sisters Juliette and Carmen accidentally fall into the magical world of their favourite book. But how will they get back home? They will have to be creative and work together. Much of this beautifully drawn family film portrays a childlike logic.
The two sisters Juliette and Carmen live right next door to Agnès – an author who writes marvellous children’s books. One day in Agnès’ book room, the girls discover a passage between their world and the fantastical universe of their favourite book – the Kingdom of the Winds. When they are suddenly whisked into the book by a magical force, an exciting adventure begins for both of them. Transformed into cats and separated from each other, they have to muster the courage to find each other again, for only together can they find their way back to the real world. To do this, they have to search for Sirocco, the only one able to control the winds and storms, but who has his own plans … Luckily, Juliette and Carmen are already very familiar with the world in their favourite book!
Benoît Chieux is a master of his craft: with references to Studio Ghibli productions and the works of Hayao Miyazaki, he has pulled out all the stops to make the mysterious Kingdom of the Wind come alive. Not everything is shown, much remains in the shadows for a long time, half-hidden, barely tangible and yet always palpable. Only at the very end do we realise who is hiding behind the scarf covering Sirocco’s face.
The film was honoured with the Audience Award at last year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
